The Edwards KIR-OSHD Intelligent Multisensor Smoke and Heat Detector is an addressable detector designed for compatible FX Series fire alarm systems. It combines advanced multi-criteria optical smoke sensing with rate-of-rise and fixed-temperature heat detection.
The KIR-OSHD uses dual optical wavelengths, multiple detection angles, and digital filtering to distinguish actual smoke from nuisance particles such as general cooking particulates. It also uses rotary addressing for straightforward device configuration.

Multi-Criteria Smoke Detection
The KIR-OSHD gathers information from multiple optical sensors and converts the readings into digital signals.
Dual optical wavelengths and multiple sensing angles allow the detector to analyze particle characteristics. Digital filtering helps reject signal patterns associated with nuisance sources while maintaining reliable response to actual smoke.
Smoke & Heat Detection
The KIR-OSHD combines optical smoke detection with electronic thermal sensing.
Fixed Temperature: 135°F / 57.2°C
Rate-of-Rise: 15°F / 9°C per minute
The detector can use smoke or heat to initiate an alarm and can also operate as a split sensor where smoke and heat generate separate signals.
Smoke Sensitivity
The published smoke obscuration range is:
0.5–4.36%/ft
1.6–13.6%/m
The detector also provides:
Five sensitivity settings
Twenty pre-alarm settings
Rotary Addressing
The KIR-OSHD uses rotary device addressing, providing a straightforward method of assigning detector addresses on compatible systems.
The detector is designed for FX Series systems and requires a compatible KI Series detector base.
Status LED
The KIR-OSHD incorporates a bi-color status LED:
Green: Normal operation
Red: Alarm condition
The LED provides local visual indication of detector status.
Compatible Detector Bases
Compatible bases include:
KI-SB / KI-SB4 — Standard bases
KI-RB / KI-RB4 — Relay bases
KI-IB / KI-IB4 — Fault isolator bases
KI-ABLT — Low-frequency audible base
KI-ABDT — Audible base for CO/fire applications
KI-ABST — Audible base for fire detectors.
