Space Age D381 3IR+UV Multi-Spectrum Flame Detector

The Space Age D381 3IR+UV Multi-Spectrum Flame Detector is an advanced optical flame detector engineered for fast and dependable fire detection in hazardous industrial environments. Utilizing three infrared (3IR) sensors combined with ultraviolet (UV) detection, the Space Age D381 accurately detects hydrocarbon, non-hydrocarbon, and hydrogen fires while providing outstanding immunity to false alarms caused by sunlight, welding, hot machinery, and other non-fire radiation sources. Therefore, it is an ideal solution for critical industrial fire protection applications requiring rapid response and exceptional reliability.

Space Age D381 Function

The Space Age D381 continuously monitors protected areas using advanced multi-spectrum optical sensing technology. As a result, it detects open flames within seconds and immediately activates connected fire alarm systems, fire suppression equipment, or emergency shutdown controls. In addition, advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and convolution algorithms distinguish actual fire signatures from nuisance radiation sources, providing dependable operation in demanding industrial environments.

Multi-Spectrum 3IR + UV Detection

The D381 combines three infrared sensing bands with ultraviolet flame detection to maximize fire detection performance while minimizing false alarms. Consequently, it provides rapid response to hydrocarbon, non-hydrocarbon, and hydrogen fires over long distances. Moreover, the detector is capable of detecting a standard 12-inch × 12-inch n-heptane fire at distances exceeding 200 feet (61 meters) under ideal operating conditions.

Fast Response with High False Alarm Immunity

The D381 utilizes advanced DSP technology and proprietary detection algorithms to analyze flame characteristics in real time. Therefore, typical fire response occurs within 3 to 5 seconds, allowing emergency systems to react quickly while rejecting nuisance alarms from solar radiation, arc welding, hot process equipment, and reflected infrared energy. Furthermore, multiple selectable sensitivity levels allow the detector to be optimized for specific industrial hazards.

Rugged Explosion-Proof Construction

The Space Age D381 is available in rugged industrial housings designed for hazardous locations, including NEMA 4X (IP66/IP67) environmental protection and explosion-proof construction for Class I, Division 1 (Zone 1) installations. As a result, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications in severe industrial environments. Additionally, the detector incorporates OptiRadar® automatic self-testing, continuously monitoring optical path integrity and internal electronics for maximum reliability.

Flexible System Integration

The D381 supports multiple output options including programmable alarm, auxiliary, and fault relays, 0–20 mA analog output, and RS-485 Modbus® communication. Consequently, it integrates easily with fire alarm systems, fire suppression controllers, PLCs, and industrial automation systems. Furthermore, onboard memory stores up to 200 event logs and six FireGraphs® for maintenance diagnostics and post-event analysis.
