The Notifier FDM-1 Intelligent Dual Monitor Module is an addressable interface device designed for compatible Notifier fire alarm control panels. It provides two independent initiating device circuits (IDCs) for monitoring conventional normally open contact devices through the system’s signaling line circuit.
The FDM-1 allows two separate initiating or supervisory circuits to be monitored from one module, making it useful where multiple conventional contact devices are located in the same area.

Dual Input Monitoring
The FDM-1 provides two independently supervised circuits:
Monitor Input 1
Monitor Input 2
Each input operates as a separate Class B initiating device circuit and reports independently to the compatible Notifier fire alarm control panel.
This allows one FDM-1 to replace the functionality of two individual single-input monitor modules in appropriate applications.
Conventional Device Monitoring
The FDM-1 is designed to monitor compatible normally open dry-contact initiating devices.
Typical connected devices can include:
- Manual pull stations
- Waterflow switches
- Valve supervisory switches
- Pressure switches
- Conventional heat detectors
- Equipment status contacts
- Other compatible normally open contact devices
Each monitored input can be programmed by the fire alarm control panel for the appropriate alarm, supervisory, or other system response.
FlashScan Communication
The FDM-1 supports Notifier’s FlashScan communication protocol.
FlashScan provides high-speed communication between intelligent field devices and compatible Notifier fire alarm control panels while maintaining individual device identification.
The FDM-1 can also operate with compatible legacy systems using CLIP communication.
Two Consecutive Addresses
The FDM-1 requires:
Two consecutive SLC addresses
The first address is selected using the module’s rotary decimal switches. The second monitored input automatically uses the next higher address.
For example:
Input 1: Address 40
Input 2: Address 41
Two consecutive addresses must therefore be available on the signaling line circuit.
Rotary Addressing
The FDM-1 uses rotary decimal switches for address selection.
This provides straightforward field configuration without requiring binary DIP-switch calculations.
The selected address establishes the first monitored input, while the module automatically assigns the following address to its second input.
Class B Circuit Supervision
Both FDM-1 inputs operate as:
Class B IDCs
Each monitored circuit uses an end-of-line resistor to supervise the associated field wiring.
This allows the module to distinguish between normal, active, and open-circuit conditions and report the appropriate status to the fire alarm control panel.
LED Status Indication
The FDM-1 incorporates:
Two status LEDs
One LED is associated with each monitored input.
The LEDs provide local visual indication of communication and input activity according to the programming and operation of the connected Notifier fire alarm control panel.
SLC-Powered Operation
The FDM-1 receives its operating power directly from the compatible Notifier signaling line circuit.
Separate 24V Power: Not required
This simplifies installation because no independent auxiliary power circuit is necessary for normal monitoring operation.
FDM-1 vs. FMM-1
The primary difference between these Notifier monitor modules is the number of inputs:
FMM-1: One monitored input
FDM-1: Two independently monitored inputs
The FDM-1 is therefore particularly useful when two conventional initiating circuits are located near one another and two consecutive SLC addresses are available.
