Edwards SIGA-MCC2A Dual Input Signal Module

The Edwards SIGA-MCC2A is an intelligent analog addressable Dual Input Signal Module in the Edwards Signature Series. It connects a supervised Class A or Class B signal or telephone output circuit to the appropriate power/audio input when commanded by the Signature loop controller.

The module can switch polarized 24 VDC for audible/visible notification appliances or 25 and 70 VRMS audio for evacuation speakers and firefighter telephone applications. The SIGA-MCC2A is the UIO motherboard-mounted version; its companion SIGA-CC2A provides essentially the same functionality in a standard two-gang mounting format.

---

Dual Input / Riser Selection

A major function of the SIGA-MCC2A is its ability to work as a dual-input riser selector.

Upon command from the Signature loop controller, the module can connect its supervised output circuit to the appropriate input/riser. This allows the fire alarm system to select between two signal sources according to the programmed system response.

This functionality is particularly useful for applications involving notification circuits, evacuation audio, and firefighter telephone systems.

---

Class A & Class B Operation

The SIGA-MCC2A supports both:

Class A circuits

and

Class B circuits

The exact operating arrangement is determined by the personality code selected during system configuration.

Class A operation provides a return circuit path and can offer greater circuit survivability than a conventional Class B arrangement when installed and configured according to the system requirements.

---

24 VDC Notification Appliance Control

The module’s power inputs can carry:

Polarized 24 VDC

for operation of compatible audible and visual notification appliances.

Typical applications can include compatible:

• Horns
• Strobes
• Horn/strobes
• Other polarized notification appliances

The actual appliance load and circuit configuration must remain within the published SIGA-MCC2A and system limits.

---

Audio Evacuation Applications

The SIGA-MCC2A can also control audio evacuation circuits using:

25 VRMS

or

70 VRMS audio.

This makes the module suitable for connecting supervised speaker circuits to compatible emergency voice/alarm communication system audio risers.

The selected personality code determines how the module operates for the particular audio application.

---

Firefighter Telephone Applications

The SIGA-MCC2A supports firefighter telephone circuits in addition to notification and evacuation audio applications.

It can be configured as either a:

Three-state telephone riser selector

or

Four-state telephone riser selector.

This allows the module to form part of an Edwards emergency communication system where firefighter telephone circuits must be connected to the appropriate telephone riser.

---

Built-In Ring-Tone Generator

When configured for firefighter telephone operation, the SIGA-MCC2A includes its own ring-tone generation capability.

This eliminates the need for a separate ring-tone circuit in applicable configurations.

The feature simplifies telephone-riser applications by incorporating the required signaling function directly into the addressable module.

---

Electronic Addressing

The SIGA-MCC2A does not use mechanical address switches or rotary dials.

Instead, the Signature loop controller automatically assigns the module’s address. A custom address can also be assigned using appropriate system programming equipment.

This electronic addressing architecture is characteristic of Edwards Signature Series devices.

---

Automatic Device Mapping

The SIGA-MCC2A supports automatic device mapping.

Signature modules can provide the loop controller with information about their physical circuit location relative to other Signature devices on the signaling line circuit.

This capability assists with system configuration, device identification, and troubleshooting.

---

Ground-Fault Detection

The module supports ground-fault detection by address.

This allows compatible Edwards control equipment to identify ground faults down to the device level rather than merely reporting a general loop-level fault.

This can simplify troubleshooting of field wiring and connected circuits.

---

Diagnostic LEDs

The SIGA-MCC2A includes diagnostic LEDs that provide visual indication of module status.

Normal: Green LED flashes

Alarm / Active: Red LED flashes

These indicators are visible for service and diagnostic purposes when the module is accessible in its enclosure.

---

Personality Codes

The SIGA-MCC2A’s operation is determined by an installer-selected Personality Code.

The selected code is downloaded to the module from the Signature loop controller during system configuration. Different personality codes configure the module for applications such as:

• Class A signal circuits
• Class B signal circuits
• Dual-input riser selection
• Audio evacuation circuits
• Three-state firefighter telephone circuits
• Four-state firefighter telephone circuits
• Ring-tone applications

For example, Edwards documentation identifies Personality Code 30 as a Class A dual-input riser-selector configuration.

---

UIO Motherboard Mounting

Unlike the standard-mount SIGA-CC2A, the SIGA-MCC2A is designed specifically for UIO motherboard installation.

The UIO motherboard is mounted inside a suitable Edwards enclosure. The SIGA-MCC2A then plugs into an available motherboard position and is secured using its captive screws.

This plug-in architecture is particularly useful where several addressable interface modules are installed together.

---

SIGA-MCC2A vs. SIGA-CC2A

The two models provide essentially the same signal-control functionality, but use different mounting arrangements:

SIGA-MCC2A: Plug-in UIO motherboard mount

SIGA-CC2A: Standard two-gang electrical-box mount

The MCC2A is therefore typically selected for centralized module installations, while the CC2A can be more convenient when a single module is required at a remote location.

---

Wiring Connections

For the SIGA-MCC2A, field wiring terminates on the associated UIO motherboard.

Published Edwards documentation specifies motherboard terminals suitable for:

Wire Size: #12 to #18 AWG
Metric Range: approximately 2.5 mm² to 0.75 mm²

Exact terminal connections depend on the selected personality code and whether the module is being used for signal, audio evacuation, or telephone operation.

---

Riser Supervision

An important design consideration is that the SIGA-MCC2A does not itself provide supervision of the riser.

Edwards specifies that the fire alarm control panel must provide the required riser supervision.

This distinction is important when designing or troubleshooting an installation: supervision of the module’s output and supervision of the incoming riser are not necessarily the same function.

---

Electrical Specifications

Edwards documentation specifies:

Operating Voltage: 20 VDC

Standby Current: 310 µA

Alarm/Active Current: 135 µA

Supported switched signal inputs include:

Notification: Polarized 24 VDC

Audio Evacuation: 25 VRMS / 70 VRMS

Telephone: Compatible firefighter telephone riser circuits

Specific output-current, audio-power, strobe-loading, and synchronization limitations should be determined from the Edwards data sheet and the connected appliance configuration.

---

Notification Synchronization

The SIGA-MCC2A supports applications involving synchronized notification appliances.

Edwards’ product documentation includes synchronization and maximum-strobe-loading information for compatible appliances. The allowable number of strobes depends on the specific strobe model and candela setting.

System designers should therefore calculate notification loads using the exact appliance models installed rather than assuming a universal appliance count.

---

Conventional Smoke Detector Limitation

The SIGA-MCC2A does not support conventional two-wire smoke detectors.

It is a signal/output control module rather than a conventional initiating-device-zone module.

---
