System Sensor SS-PHOTO Intelligent Smoke Detector

The System Sensor SS-PHOTO Intelligent Smoke Detector is an addressable photoelectric sensor designed for compatible intelligent fire alarm control panels. Its redesigned optical sensing chamber detects smoke from a broad range of combustion sources, while analog communication allows the control panel to continuously evaluate smoke density and detector sensitivity.

The SS-PHOTO supports SS, LiteSpeed, and SK protocol systems and provides individual Point ID identification through rotary address switches.

Photoelectric Smoke Detection

The SS-PHOTO uses an advanced photoelectric optical sensing chamber engineered to detect smoke generated by a wide range of combustion sources.

The sensor complies with the more stringent detection requirements associated with UL 268 7th Edition.

Rather than functioning as a simple conventional on/off detector, the SS-PHOTO communicates an analog representation of smoke conditions to the compatible fire alarm control panel.

---

Intelligent Addressable Operation

Each SS-PHOTO can be individually identified by the fire alarm control system.

The detector uses rotary address switches to establish its device address, allowing the panel to associate alarms and other detector information with a specific programmed location.

This Point ID architecture simplifies alarm identification, system testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

SS, LiteSpeed & SK Protocols

The SS-PHOTO supports current:

SS Protocol

LiteSpeed

SK Protocol systems.

Compatibility depends on the specific fire alarm control panel and SLC configuration, so the current detector/base compatibility chart or panel SLC manual should be used when specifying the detector.

---

Programmable Sensitivity

The SS-PHOTO provides programmable smoke sensitivity through compatible fire alarm control-panel software.

Published sensitivity ranges include:

Open Area: 2.86–5.0%/ft

Special Application: 0.5–2.86%/ft.

Detector sensitivity is continually monitored and reported to the compatible fire alarm control panel.

---

LED Status Indication

The SS-PHOTO incorporates dual LEDs for 360-degree status visibility.

Published operation includes:

Normal Communication: Green LED blink

Alarm: Red LED steady

Additional Status: Amber LED indication.

The exact LED behavior can depend on the connected fire alarm control panel and system programming.

---

Duct Applications

The SS-PHOTO is listed for both open-area and applicable duct smoke detection applications.

UL 268: Open-air protection

UL 268A: Duct applications

Air Velocity: 0–4,000 ft/min / 0–1,219.2 m/min.

The detector is also listed for use inside compatible DNR/DNRW duct smoke detector housings.

---

Electrical & Communication Information

Operating Voltage: 15–32 VDC

Operating Current at 24 VDC: 200 µA

Maximum Alarm Current: 2 mA at 24 VDC

Maximum Current: 4.5 mA at 24 VDC

Communication Interval: Approximately every 5 seconds

Protocols: SS / LiteSpeed / SK

Addressing: Rotary switches.

Compatible Detector Bases

The SS-PHOTO is a plug-in detector requiring a compatible base. Manufacturer documentation lists options including:

B501-WHITE: 4-inch standard base

B300-6: 6-inch flanged base

B200S-WH: Addressable sounder base

B200S-LF-WH: Low-frequency sounder base

B224RB: Relay base

B224BI: Isolator base.

This allows the SS-PHOTO to be adapted to standard detection, sounder, relay, or isolator applications.
