The Silent Knight IDP-PHOTO Intelligent Photoelectric Smoke Detector is an addressable smoke detector designed for compatible Silent Knight and Farenhyt fire alarm control panels. It uses photoelectric sensing technology to detect smoke while providing individual point identification through the system’s signaling line circuit.
The IDP-PHOTO combines an optical sensing chamber with intelligent communication, rotary decimal addressing, programmable sensitivity, and status LEDs. It is a plug-in detector that uses a separately installed compatible detector base.

Photoelectric Smoke Detection
The IDP-PHOTO uses photoelectric sensing technology to detect airborne smoke particles.
Smoke entering the sensing chamber scatters light toward the optical sensor. The detector evaluates this condition and communicates smoke information to the compatible fire alarm control panel.
This intelligent architecture allows the control system to evaluate detector conditions and provide alarm, maintenance, and status information.
Intelligent Addressable Operation
Each IDP-PHOTO operates as an individually identifiable point on the signaling line circuit.
The fire alarm control panel associates the detector’s address with a programmed location, allowing personnel to identify the specific detector reporting an alarm or maintenance condition.
Rotary Addressing
The IDP-PHOTO uses rotary decimal address switches.
This allows the detector address to be selected directly at the device, simplifying system commissioning, troubleshooting, and detector replacement.
Programmable Sensitivity
The IDP-PHOTO supports programmable smoke sensitivity through compatible fire alarm control equipment.
Published sensitivity extends approximately from:
0.5% to 4.0% per foot obscuration
The system can monitor detector sensitivity and identify conditions that may require maintenance.
LED Status Indication
The detector incorporates two integral LEDs that provide broad visual indication around the detector.
The LEDs can indicate communication, alarm, and detector status according to the capabilities and programming of the connected fire alarm control panel.
Remote LED Capability
The IDP-PHOTO supports compatible remote annunciation equipment such as:
RA100Z — Remote LED Annunciator
This provides remote detector indication when the detector itself is installed in a location where its onboard LEDs are difficult to observe.
Magnetic Functional Test
The detector supports functional testing using an external magnet.
Compatible accessories include:
M02-04-01 — Test Magnet
M02-09-00 — Test Magnet with Telescoping Handle
This provides a convenient method for checking detector response during routine inspection and servicing.
Compatible Detector Bases
Compatible base configurations include:
B501 — Standard Detector Base
B300-6 — 6-inch Detector Base
B200S — Sounder Base
B224BI — Isolator Base
B224RB — Relay Base
The plug-in design allows the detector head to be removed or replaced without disturbing field wiring connected to the base.
