The Mircom MIX-5251HAP Intelligent High Temperature Heat Detector provides addressable thermal detection for compatible Mircom fire alarm systems. Designed specifically for high-temperature environments, the detector features a 190°F (88°C) fixed-temperature alarm point and uses an advanced thermistor sensing circuit for fast response.
As part of Mircom’s Advanced Protocol intelligent thermal sensor family, the MIX-5251HAP combines high-temperature detection with addressable communication, low standby current, rotary addressing, and dual LED indication. Its specialized temperature range makes it suitable for locations where a standard 135°F heat detector may not be appropriate.
190°F High Temperature Detection
The Mircom MIX-5251HAP is specifically designed for high-temperature applications and activates at a fixed temperature of 190°F (88°C). Unlike the MIX-5251RAP, this model does not rely on rate-of-rise detection. Instead, it provides fixed high-temperature thermal detection.
The detector uses a thermistor-based sensing circuit to monitor ambient temperature. When the fixed alarm threshold is reached, the detector communicates the alarm condition to the compatible fire alarm control panel.
Advanced Protocol Communication
The MIX-5251HAP supports Mircom Advanced Protocol (AP) communication. Advanced Protocol uses high-speed communications and supports up to 318 devices per SLC circuit on compatible systems.
The detector is also backward compatible with CLIP mode for applicable legacy system applications. Rotary address switches allow technicians to select addresses 01–159 in Advanced Protocol mode and 01–99 in CLIP mode.
Key Features
- Intelligent 190°F (88°C) fixed-temperature heat detector
- Designed for high-temperature applications
- Advanced Protocol with CLIP backward compatibility
- Dual LEDs with 360° visual indication
- Rotary address selection
- Low-profile plug-in design
Electrical Specifications
The Mircom MIX-5251HAP operates from 15 to 32 VDC peak. Standby current is approximately 300 µA at 24 VDC, while maximum LED current is 6.5 mA at 24 VDC.
Its low standby current helps minimize SLC loading while maintaining continuous addressable communication with the compatible fire alarm control panel.
High-Temperature Operating Range
The MIX-5251HAP has an operating temperature range of -4°F to 150°F (-20°C to 66°C) and an operating humidity range of 10% to 93% relative humidity, non-condensing.
This higher operating-temperature capability distinguishes the MIX-5251HAP from the MIX-5251AP and MIX-5251RAP, which are specified for operating temperatures up to 100°F (38°C).
Low-Profile Detector Design
The detector measures approximately 2.0 inches (51 mm) high. When installed on a B210LP base, its diameter is approximately 6.1 inches (155 mm), while installation on a B501 base results in a diameter of approximately 4.1 inches (104 mm). The sensor weighs approximately 4.8 oz. (137 g).
Mircom identifies the B501 flangeless base and B210LP flanged base as mounting options. The series also includes relay, isolator, and sounder base options for applicable system configurations.
Dual LED Status Indication
The Mircom MIX-5251HAP incorporates two LEDs positioned to provide 360-degree visibility. The LEDs indicate detector communication and can illuminate steadily when the detector enters an alarm condition.
An optional remote LED annunciator can also be used where remote visual indication is required.
Commercial Fire Alarm Applications
The MIX-5251HAP is designed for locations requiring a higher fixed-temperature alarm threshold than a standard heat detector. It can support specialized commercial, industrial, mechanical, and institutional fire alarm applications where ambient temperatures may make a conventional 135°F detector unsuitable.
Detector selection, spacing, and placement should always follow the approved fire alarm design and applicable requirements. Mircom documentation identifies the series for open-area protection with spacing capability up to 50 feet where permitted by its UL 521 listing and applicable installation requirements.
System Compatibility
The Mircom MIX-5251HAP requires compatible addressable communications and should only be connected to listed-compatible fire alarm control equipment. Mircom documentation for the FX-3500 identifies the MIX-5251HAP as an Advanced Protocol high-temperature heat detector supported by that system.
The MIX-5251HAP is also a legacy model. Mircom’s U.S. end-of-line notice states that new orders were discontinued after February 28, 2022, and identifies the MIX-5351HAP as an alternate model.
Overall, the Mircom MIX-5251HAP Intelligent High Temperature Heat Detector provides dependable 190°F fixed-temperature detection for compatible addressable fire alarm systems. Its high-temperature operating capability, Advanced Protocol communication, low standby current, rotary addressing, and dual LED indication make it well suited for specialized thermal detection applications.
