The Edwards 284B-PL only offers fixed temperature detection. If the temperature of the center disk rises, the fixed temperature element activates.
If the temperature of the center disk rises to the sensor’s rated temperature, the fixed temperature element activates. This closes contacts in the sensor and transmits an alarm condition to the fire alarm control panel. The fixed temperature element is non-restorable and, when activated, the detector must be replaced. The need for replacement is indicated when the center disk has fallen free from the detector. In addition, Edwards Est 284B-PL series heat sensors come standard with a white plastic reversible mounting plate.
When using exposed installation wiring, remove either or both snap outs for wire entrance from the plate, as required. With the side of the plate marked “FOR SURFACE MOUNTING” facing out, fasten the plate to the surface by installing two #8 wood screws or other suitable fasteners through either the inner or outer pair of surface mounting holes in the plate.
To remove the detector: Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the rectangular slot in the side of the detector base (see applicable mounting illustration for location of slot), lift the locking finger of the mounting plate, and turn the detector counterclockwise until it can be withdrawn from the plate.
