Edwards ESD-CJ Duct Smoke Detector Controller (RJ45)

The Edwards ESD-CJ Duct Smoke Detector Controller is an intelligent controller designed for use with Edwards SuperDuct RJ45 smoke sensors in commercial HVAC smoke detection systems. The Edwards ESD-CJ serves as the primary control interface between the remote duct smoke sensor and the fire alarm system, providing alarm processing, relay outputs, status indication, and HVAC shutdown functions. Therefore, it delivers dependable smoke detection control while helping prevent the circulation of smoke throughout a building’s ventilation system.

Edwards ESD-CJ Function

The Edwards ESD-CJ monitors a compatible RJ45-connected smoke sensor installed within the HVAC duct system. As a result, when smoke is detected, the controller activates its onboard alarm relays to initiate fire alarm notification, HVAC shutdown, smoke control functions, or building automation responses. In addition, the controller supervises the connected sensor and provides clear status indication for alarm and trouble conditions.

RJ45 Remote Sensor Interface

The ESD-CJ is designed specifically for use with Edwards ESD-SJ, TSD-SJ, and SD-SJ RJ45 photoelectric duct smoke sensors. Consequently, installers can mount the smoke sensor directly on the duct while locating the controller for convenient wiring and maintenance. Moreover, the modular RJ45 connection simplifies installation and detector replacement.

HVAC Smoke Control

The Edwards ESD-CJ is engineered to help prevent smoke migration through HVAC systems by initiating fan shutdown or other smoke control sequences when an alarm condition occurs. Therefore, it supports life safety objectives by limiting smoke distribution throughout the protected building. Furthermore, the controller integrates easily with fire alarm control panels and building automation systems.

LED Status Indicators

The controller incorporates highly visible LED indicators that display normal operation, alarm, and trouble conditions. As a result, maintenance personnel can quickly determine detector status during inspections or troubleshooting. Additionally, the clear cover allows visual inspection without opening the enclosure, reducing maintenance time.

Easy Installation and Service

The SuperDuct controller features a low-profile housing with a large wiring compartment, plug-in RJ45 sensor connection, and convenient access to field wiring. Consequently, installation is simplified while reducing service time during maintenance and detector replacement. The modular design also supports flexible installation in both new construction and retrofit HVAC applications.
