The System Sensor SPSRK Outdoor Wall Speaker Strobe Red is a weatherproof audible/visual notification appliance from the SpectrAlert Advance family. It combines a high-fidelity emergency voice speaker with a field-selectable visual strobe in a red wall-mount assembly designed for both indoor and outdoor fire alarm applications. System Sensor specifically identifies the SPSRK as the red outdoor wall speaker strobe with standard selectable candela output.
The speaker supports 25 or 70.7 VRMS operation with selectable ¼, ½, 1, and 2 watt taps, while the strobe provides selectable 15, 15/75, 30, 75, 95, 110, and 115 candela settings. The standard SPSRK includes its plastic weatherproof backbox for outdoor installation.

Outdoor Speaker Strobe Operation
The SPSRK combines two life-safety notification functions in one device.
The speaker reproduces emergency voice messages, evacuation instructions, and alarm tones generated by a compatible fire alarm voice evacuation or emergency communication system.
The strobe provides visual notification for occupants who may not hear the audible message or where visible emergency signaling is otherwise required.
System Sensor specifies the outdoor speaker-strobe family for fire protective signaling systems and lists it for use in wet environments when installed with its weatherproof backbox.
Selectable Candela
The SPSRK provides seven field-selectable standard-candela settings:
- 15 cd
- 15/75 cd
- 30 cd
- 75 cd
- 95 cd
- 110 cd
- 115 cd
The appropriate candela setting should be determined from the approved fire alarm design, mounting location, required visual coverage, circuit loading, applicable codes, and authority having jurisdiction requirements.
System Sensor also publishes low-temperature candela derating information for outdoor applications. The 15 cd setting should not be used below 32°F, while higher settings have specified output ratings at temperatures down to −40°F.
Dual-Voltage Speaker
The SPSRK speaker supports either:
- 25 VRMS nominal
- 70.7 VRMS nominal
This allows the same appliance to be used on common 25-volt or 70.7-volt distributed emergency voice systems.
The selected speaker voltage must match the output of the connected fire alarm voice amplifier.
Selectable Speaker Wattage
The SPSRK provides four field-selectable speaker power taps:
- ¼ watt
- ½ watt
- 1 watt
- 2 watts
Speaker voltage and wattage are selected using rotary switches, simplifying field configuration.
The wattage setting determines both acoustic output and the load placed on the fire alarm amplifier. Higher wattage settings provide greater sound output but consume more of the available amplifier capacity.
Audible Output
System Sensor publishes the following UL reverberant sound-pressure levels at 10 feet for the outdoor speaker-strobe:
- ¼ W: 80 dBA
- ½ W: 83 dBA
- 1 W: 86 dBA
- 2 W: 89 dBA
The speaker provides a frequency range of 400–4,000 Hz, making it suitable for intelligible emergency voice messages as well as alarm tones.
Actual installed sound pressure depends on speaker placement, distance, ambient noise, room or outdoor acoustics, and other environmental conditions.
Strobe Operation
The visual section uses a xenon flash tube with an associated lens and reflector system.
The strobe can operate on either:
12 V nominal: 8–17.5 V
24 V nominal: 16–33 V
At 12-volt operation, available output is limited to 15 and 15/75 candela. The full standard-candela range is available on appropriate 24-volt circuits.
The strobe flashes at approximately 1 Hz, or one flash per second, throughout its rated operating voltage range.
System Sensor Synchronization
The SPSRK supports System Sensor synchronization when connected to compatible fire alarm control equipment, power supplies, or synchronization modules.
Synchronization allows compatible strobes within the same field of view to flash together according to the system design.
This is especially important in installations containing multiple visible notification appliances.
Weatherproof Design
The K suffix identifies the SPSRK as an outdoor model.
System Sensor specifies an operating temperature range of:
−40°F to 150.8°F / approximately −40°C to 66°C
The speaker strobe is suitable for:
- Outdoor environments
- Wet locations
- Indoor applications
- Air-handling spaces
- Areas exposed to significant temperature variation
The appliance must be installed with its approved weatherproof backbox to retain its outdoor approval.
Weatherproof Backbox
The standard SPSRK includes a red plastic weatherproof backbox.
System Sensor distinguishes several related versions:
- SPSRK – Red outdoor speaker strobe, standard candela, weatherproof backbox included
- SPSRK-P – Red outdoor speaker strobe, plain/no FIRE marking, backbox included
- SPSRK-R – Replacement red outdoor speaker strobe without weatherproof backbox
System Sensor notes that when replacing standard outdoor units, both the device and backbox should be replaced unless the appropriate replacement configuration is specifically being used.
