The Honeywell ATD-L3R-IV Intelligent Heat Detector is an addressable thermal detector designed for compatible Honeywell/Gamewell-FCI fire alarm systems. It combines a 135°F fixed-temperature threshold with rate-of-rise detection, providing both temperature-limit and rapid-temperature-change detection.
The ivory -IV configuration supports both Velociti and CLIP protocols, making it suitable for compatible current and legacy addressable systems. Honeywell’s current Series 3 documentation specifically identifies ATD-L3R-IV as the ivory 135°F rate-of-rise model.

135°F Fixed-Temperature Detection
The ATD-L3R-IV has a fixed-temperature alarm rating of:
135°F / approximately 57°C.
When the monitored temperature reaches the detector’s fixed threshold, the device communicates the alarm condition to the compatible fire alarm control panel.
This provides thermal fire detection in areas where smoke detection may be inappropriate or where heat detection is required by the system design.
Rate-of-Rise Detection
In addition to its fixed-temperature threshold, the ATD-L3R-IV incorporates rate-of-rise detection.
Published Honeywell engineering specifications identify the rate-of-rise element at approximately:
15°F per minute
or roughly:
9.4°C per minute.
This allows the detector to respond to a rapidly developing fire before the ambient temperature necessarily reaches the 135°F fixed-temperature threshold.
Intelligent Addressable Operation
The ATD-L3R-IV is an intelligent addressable detector.
Each detector communicates individually with the compatible fire alarm control panel, allowing the system to identify the exact detector reporting an alarm or abnormal condition.
The detector continuously monitors temperature and communicates its condition through the signaling line circuit rather than relying on a conventional standalone alarm contact.
Velociti & CLIP Communication
Honeywell identifies the ATD-L3R-IV as supporting:
Velociti
and
CLIP communication.
This is an important characteristic of the ivory model.
Honeywell’s ordering information distinguishes:
ATD-L3R: Bright white, Velociti
ATD-L3R-IV: Ivory, Velociti/CLIP.
CLIP compatibility provides additional flexibility for use with compatible legacy fire alarm systems.
Rotary Addressing
The ATD-L3R-IV provides individual point identification using rotary address switches.
Each detector is assigned its own address so the fire alarm control panel can associate an alarm or trouble condition with a specific physical detector location.
This simplifies system annunciation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance compared with conventional zone-based heat detection.
Detector Base Compatibility
The ATD-L3R-IV is compatible with multiple Honeywell/System Sensor detector bases. Honeywell’s compatibility documentation identifies support for base configurations including:
B501-IV
B300-6-IV
B200S-IV / B200S-LF-IV
B200SR-IV / B200SR-LF-IV
B224BI-IV
B224RB-IV.
These options allow the detector to be used with standard, sounder, isolator, and relay-base applications where supported by the fire alarm system.
Related ATD-L3 Models
Honeywell’s Series 3 thermal detector family includes:
ATD-L3: 135°F fixed-temperature, bright white
ATD-L3-IV: 135°F fixed-temperature, ivory, Velociti/CLIP
ATD-L3R: 135°F fixed-temperature with rate-of-rise, bright white
ATD-L3R-IV: 135°F fixed-temperature with rate-of-rise, ivory, Velociti/CLIP
ATD-L3H: 190°F high-temperature, bright white
ATD-L3H-IV: 190°F high-temperature, ivory, Velociti/CLIP.
The ATD-L3R-IV is therefore specifically the ivory, dual fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise version.

Installation Information
The ATD-L3R-IV installs onto a compatible intelligent detector base. The address is set using the detector’s rotary address switches before the detector is placed into service.
Typical installation includes installing and wiring the appropriate detector base, setting the device address, attaching the detector, programming the point into the fire alarm control panel, verifying communication, and functionally testing both alarm reporting and thermal response.
The detector connects to the compatible fire alarm control panel through a two-wire signaling line circuit.
