Edwards G1M Genesis Signal Master Synchronization Module

The Edwards G1M Genesis Signal Master Synchronization Module is a notification appliance synchronization accessory designed to provide precision strobe synchronization and independent horn control for compatible Edwards Genesis notification appliances. The module installs directly onto the back of the first compatible Genesis appliance on a Notification Appliance Circuit (NAC), eliminating the need for a separate electrical box.

The G1M synchronizes compatible strobes that are electrically connected downstream from the module.

Product Functions

• Provides precision synchronization for compatible Genesis strobes
• Supports UL 1971 compliant visual synchronization
• Synchronizes flashes to within 10 milliseconds
• Maintains synchronization indefinitely
• Provides independent horn control for compatible Genesis horn-strobes
• Supports traditional NAC signal-silence control
• Supports normally closed contact horn-control arrangements
• Operates from regulated 24 VDC or full-wave rectified circuits
• Supports 16–33 VDC operating voltage
• Supports 16–33 VFWR operating voltage
• Uses snap-on piggyback mounting
• Mounts directly behind the first compatible Genesis appliance
• Requires no separate electrical box for the G1M itself
• Only one Signal Master is required per applicable notification appliance circuit
• Supports 12–18 AWG field wiring
• Designed for indoor fire alarm notification applications

Strobe Synchronization

The primary function of the G1M is to provide precision synchronization of compatible visual notification appliances.

Edwards specifies:

Flash Rate: 1 flash per second
Synchronization Accuracy: Within 10 milliseconds
Synchronization Duration: Indefinitely

This synchronized operation is designed to meet the requirements of UL 1971 for visual notification appliances.

The G1M only synchronizes compatible appliances that are electrically connected to and downstream from the Signal Master.

Independent Horn Control

Edwards documents two methods of independent horn control:

• Traditional NAC signal silence
• Normally closed contact control

One NAC Operation

The G1M can be configured for synchronization using a single Notification Appliance Circuit.

In this arrangement, jumpers are installed between the horn and strobe input terminals as specified by Edwards. The same NAC supplies the required signaling power to the module and connected notification appliances.

Where independent horn silence is required, an appropriate two-NAC or control-contact arrangement should be used.

Two NAC Horn Silence Operation

This arrangement allows the system to control the audible and visual portions of compatible Genesis horn-strobes separately.

Snap-On Piggyback Mounting

The G1M is the snap-on version of the Genesis Signal Master.

Installation is accomplished by sliding the G1M’s spade connectors into the terminals on the rear of the Genesis appliance.

G1M vs. G1M-RM

Edwards offers two primary mounting configurations in the Genesis Signal Master family.

G1M:
Snap-on piggyback model that mounts directly to the back of a compatible Genesis appliance.

G1M-RM:
Remote-mount version designed for installation in a North American one-gang electrical box or other supported mounting arrangement.

Genesis Compatibility

The G1M is designed for compatible Edwards Genesis notification appliances.

Edwards documentation identifies the Signal Master family for synchronization applications involving Genesis products.

A G1M should not be assumed compatible with every Edwards notification appliance. The applicable control-panel compatibility documentation should be checked for the exact appliance models and quantities permitted on the circuit.

Electrical Specifications

The published Edwards G1M specifications include:

Operating Voltage: 16–33 VDC or 16–33 VFWR
Nominal System Type: Regulated 24 VDC / 24 VFWR
Operating Current: 33 mA
Output Rating: 2 A maximum
Flash Rate: 1 flash per second
Synchronization: Within 10 ms indefinitely
Maximum Resistance Between Two Appliances: 20 Ω
Wire Size: 12–18 AWG / 0.75–2.50 mm²

Environmental Specifications

The G1M is intended for indoor installations.

Operating Temperature: 32°F to 120°F / 0°C to 49°C
Relative Humidity: 0% to 93%, non-condensing
Environmental Classification: Indoor

The module and connected notification appliances should only be installed within their specified environmental limits.

Installation Information

Typical G1M installation includes:

• Identifying the first compatible Genesis appliance on the NAC
• Mounting the G1M onto the rear of that appliance
• Connecting the Signal Master spade connectors
• Maintaining correct NAC polarity
• Connecting downstream notification appliance wiring
• Configuring horn and strobe inputs for the required operating method
• Installing required jumpers for single-NAC operation
• Verifying notification circuit loading
• Testing strobe synchronization
• Testing horn operation
• Testing signal silence where configured

Testing & Maintenance

Testing should confirm:

• Correct G1M mounting
• Proper NAC polarity
• Correct operating voltage
• Proper downstream appliance operation
• Strobe activation
• Strobe synchronization
• Approximately one-flash-per-second operation
• Synchronization within the supported system configuration
• Proper horn activation
• Proper horn silence where configured
• Secure field wiring
• Correct EOL supervision or Class A return
• Proper fire alarm control panel supervision
• Correct system restoration after testing
