SuperDuct Four-Wire Compatibility
The SD-TRM4 is specifically designed for four-wire SuperDuct detectors.
Edwards’ current product guide lists:
SD-TRM4: Magnetic remote test station — four-wire
SD-TRK4: Keyed remote test station — four-wire
For comparison, Edwards lists the SD-TRM and SD-TRK for its two-wire duct detector applications.
Published product information also identifies compatibility with the SD-4WJ four-wire duct smoke detector/controller.
Magnetic Test/Reset Operation
The SD-TRM4 uses a magnet rather than a mechanical key switch to initiate test and reset functions.
Edwards documentation identifies the compatible:
SD-MAG — Test Magnet Kit.
Holding the magnet at the designated target activates the station’s test/reset function. This allows detector testing without requiring direct access to the duct detector.
Remote Alarm Test
The SD-TRM4 can remotely place the connected duct smoke detector into an alarm condition for functional testing.
Published test instructions specify holding the test magnet at the target area for approximately:
7 seconds — initiate alarm test
The station’s red Alarm LED should illuminate when the detector enters alarm.
Because this procedure deliberately places the detector into alarm, connected fire alarm and HVAC control functions should be handled according to the applicable testing procedure before initiating the test.
Remote Reset
After testing, the connected detector can be reset from the SD-TRM4.
Published procedures specify applying the test magnet for approximately:
2 seconds — reset detector.
After a successful reset, the red alarm indicator should turn off and the detector should return to its normal condition if no alarm-producing condition remains.
LED Status Indicators
The SD-TRM4 provides three visual status indicators:
Green LED — Power
Red LED — Alarm
Yellow LED — Trouble / Dirty Detector.
These indicators allow detector status to be viewed at an accessible remote location without inspecting the duct detector itself.
Dirty Sensor Indication
The yellow trouble indicator also provides information about detector contamination or dirty-sensor conditions.
Edwards documentation provides a dedicated remote dirty-sensor test. Applying the magnet for approximately two seconds can initiate the test, with the station’s trouble LED providing the corresponding indication.
This assists maintenance personnel in identifying a SuperDuct sensor that requires cleaning or service.
Remote Monitoring Advantage
Duct smoke detectors are frequently installed in locations that are inconvenient for routine observation or testing.
The SD-TRM4 allows key detector information and testing functions to be relocated to a more accessible point.
From the remote station, personnel can observe:
- Detector power
- Alarm condition
- Trouble condition
- Dirty-sensor indication
and initiate detector test/reset functions without directly accessing the detector housing.
