In general, the Edwards 283C heat detectors offer fixed temperature or combination rate-of-rise and fixed temperature detection. Also, when the temperature increase at the sensor of 15°F (9°C) or more per minute activates the rate-of-rise feature. This closes the contacts in the sensor to transmit the alarm condition to the fire alarm control panel. When the rate-of-rise element alone has been activate, the sensor is self-restoring.
If the temperature of the center disk rises to the sensor’s rated temperature, the fixed temperature element activates. This closes contacts in the sensor and transmits an alarm condition to the fire alarm control panel. The fixed temperature element is non-restorable and, when activated, the Edwards 283C must be replace. The need for replacement is indicate when the center disk has fallen free from the detector .
Installation
- Heat detectors should be install in accordance with CAN/ULC-s524-m86 and the latest issue of the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Select location for detector on ceiling. Do not locate in a direct path of hot or cold air flow. Earlier warning may be obtain by reducing the spacing between detectors.
- The detector may be mounted either to an electrical box or surface mounted using the supplied metal or optional plastic mounting plate. Install the plate using one of the following applicable mounting procedures.
