Vigilant GSA-SD Duct Smoke Detector

The Vigilant GSA-SD is a commercial duct smoke detector designed for compatible Vigilant Signature Series fire alarm systems. It continuously samples air moving through HVAC ductwork to detect smoke and help prevent combustion products from circulating throughout the protected building.

The detector combines a Signature Series smoke sensor with environmental compensation, electronic addressing, self-diagnostics, maintenance reporting, and an integral Form C alarm relay. Its compact SuperDuct design simplifies installation and servicing in confined mechanical spaces. This product is intended exclusively for commercial fire alarm installations.

Product Functions

• Detects smoke within HVAC ductwork
• Monitors supply or return air systems
• Reports alarm conditions to the fire alarm control panel
• Activates an integral Form C auxiliary relay
• Supports HVAC shutdown and ancillary equipment control
• Provides dirty detector and maintenance reporting
• Supports remote testing and reset
• Continuously compensates for gradual environmental changes
• Performs internal self-diagnostics
• Stores operating and event history in nonvolatile memory

Electrical & System Information

The GSA-SD operates from a compatible Vigilant Signature Data Circuit at 15.2–19.95 VDC. It uses electronic addressing and communicates alarm, trouble, maintenance, and operating information directly to the compatible Signature Loop Controller.

An unsupervised, power-limited Form C alarm relay is provided for controlling HVAC equipment or other approved auxiliary functions. The detector also supports a remote test station or remote alarm LED when required by the installation.

Features

• Commercial duct smoke detector
• Signature Series communication
• Environmental compensation
• Differential smoke sensing
• Electronic addressing
• Dirty detector identification
• Defective detector reporting
• Built-in self-diagnostics
• Nonvolatile event and maintenance history
• Red alarm and green power LEDs
• Clear cover for visible status indication
• Cover tamper monitoring switch
• Magnet-activated test switch
• Integral Form C alarm relay
• Conformally coated circuit board
• Removable dust filters
• Low-profile SuperDuct housing

Mounting & Design

The GSA-SD mounts directly to HVAC ductwork and uses a separately ordered sampling tube selected according to duct width. The sampling tube can be installed from either side of the assembly and rotated in 45-degree increments to align the inlet holes correctly with duct airflow.

Its housing measures less than two inches deep, making it suitable for installations with limited clearance. The clear removable cover provides access to the sensing chamber, terminals, filters, sampling tube, and exhaust tube without requiring specialized tools.

Protection & Applications

Suitable for:

• HVAC Supply Ducts
• HVAC Return Ducts
• Air Handling Units
• Mechanical Rooms
• Commercial Buildings
• Hospitals
• Schools
• Office Buildings
• Industrial Facilities
• Warehouses

A duct smoke detector is intended to monitor smoke movement through an HVAC system and is not a substitute for open-area smoke detection or a complete building fire alarm detection system.

Compatibility

Compatible with:

• Vigilant Signature Series Fire Alarm Systems
• Signature Loop Controllers
• Signature Data Circuits
• SD-T Series Sampling Tubes
• SD-TRM Magnetic Remote Test Station
• SD-TRK Keyed Remote Test Station
• GSA-LED Remote Alarm Indicator
• SD-PH Protective Housing
• SD-GSK Cover Gasket Kit
