System Sensor PIBV2 Post Indicator/Butterfly Valve Supervisory Switch

The System Sensor PIBV2 Post Indicator/Butterfly Valve Supervisory Switch is a conventional fire sprinkler supervisory device designed to monitor the open position of post indicator valves, butterfly valves, and other compatible control valves.

The PIBV2 uses a rugged weatherproof metal housing with a bi-directional adjustable actuator. When the monitored valve moves away from its normal fully open position, the switch changes state and reports a supervisory condition to the connected fire alarm control system.

Valve Supervisory Operation

The PIBV2 monitors whether a sprinkler system control valve remains in its normal open position.

The actuator rests against the valve’s target or flag. As the valve moves toward the closed position, the actuator changes position and operates the internal supervisory switches.

The device is adjusted to operate within two revolutions of the valve control or when the valve flag has moved no more than one-fifth of its total travel from the normal position.

Dual SPDT Contacts

The PIBV2 contains:

Two SPDT (Form C) switches

The two switches operate together, allowing the device to provide simultaneous supervisory signaling to compatible fire alarm and auxiliary equipment.

The contacts are enclosed within a durable terminal block for reliable field connection.

Adjustable Actuator

The PIBV2 uses an adjustable-length actuator designed to simplify setup with different valve configurations.

The actuator also incorporates a breakaway feature, reducing the need for field cutting while allowing the switch to be adjusted to the specific valve arrangement.

Weatherproof Operation

The PIBV2 uses a weatherproof die-cast metal enclosure suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.

Enclosure Rating: NEMA 3R when mounted with the actuator vertically downward

Additional Rating: IP54

The actuator may also be installed horizontally. A vertically upward-pointing actuator position is not an acceptable mounting orientation.

The switch can interface with a compatible nonsilenceable supervisory initiating circuit and can also support an appropriate local signaling device configuration.

Tamper-Resistant Design

The PIBV2 enclosure uses tamper-resistant cover screws to discourage unauthorized access to the internal switch assembly.

A security wrench is provided for servicing the cover.
