The Honeywell IDP-PHOTO-IV Intelligent Smoke Detector is a plug-in addressable photoelectric detector designed for compatible Honeywell Silent Knight and Farenhyt fire alarm systems. It uses an optical sensing chamber to detect smoke while transmitting detector status and smoke-density information to the fire alarm control panel.
The -IV configuration features an ivory housing and provides individual Point ID identification through rotary decimal addressing. Its intelligent architecture allows compatible control equipment to monitor detector sensitivity and identify the exact detector reporting an alarm or maintenance condition.

Photoelectric Smoke Detection
The IDP-PHOTO-IV uses photoelectric sensing technology to detect airborne smoke particles.
Smoke entering the sensing chamber scatters light within the detector. The optical sensor measures this condition and communicates an analog representation of the smoke level to the compatible fire alarm control panel.
This allows the system to evaluate changing smoke conditions rather than relying solely on a conventional on/off alarm contact.
Intelligent Addressable Operation
Each IDP-PHOTO-IV operates as an individually identifiable device on the compatible signaling line circuit.
The fire alarm control panel associates the detector’s address with a programmed location, allowing alarm and maintenance information to identify the specific detector rather than only a conventional detection zone.
Rotary Addressing
The IDP-PHOTO-IV uses rotary decimal address switches.
Each detector is assigned an individual address before being placed into service. Rotary addressing simplifies device identification during commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, and detector replacement.
Programmable Sensitivity
Detector sensitivity is controlled and monitored through compatible fire alarm control equipment.
Published sensitivity extends approximately from:
0.5% to 4.0% per foot obscuration
depending on the connected system and programmed application.
Sensitivity monitoring can also help identify detector contamination and maintenance conditions.
LED Status Indication
The detector incorporates two integral LEDs positioned to provide broad status visibility.
The LEDs provide local indication of detector communication and alarm status according to the capabilities and programming of the connected fire alarm control panel.
An optional remote LED annunciator can also be connected where remote detector indication is required.
Remote LED Capability
The IDP-PHOTO-IV supports compatible remote annunciation equipment such as:
RA100Z — Remote LED Annunciator
This can provide detector alarm indication at an accessible location when the detector’s integral LEDs are difficult to observe.
Magnetic Functional Test
The detector supports local functional testing using an external test magnet.
Compatible testing accessories include:
M02-04-01 — Test Magnet
M02-09-00 — Test Magnet with Telescoping Handle
This provides technicians with a convenient method for checking detector response during inspection and servicing.
Compatible Detector Bases
Compatible ivory base options include:
B501-IV — Standard detector base
B300-6-IV — 6-inch standard detector base
B200S-IV — Sounder base
B224BI-IV — Isolator base
B224RB-IV — Relay base
The plug-in design allows the detector head to be removed or replaced without disturbing field wiring connected to the detector base.
