Honeywell ASD-PL3R-IV Smoke Detector

The Honeywell ASD-PL3R-IV is an intelligent addressable smoke detector designed to provide dependable early warning fire detection in commercial fire alarm systems. It uses advanced optical sensing technology to monitor airborne smoke conditions while continuously communicating detector information to compatible fire alarm control equipment.

The IV designation identifies the detector’s ivory finish. The ASD-PL3R-IV combines Velociti intelligent communication, rotary addressing, dual LED status indication, remote testing capability, and a low-profile plug-in design for commercial life safety installations.

Smoke Detection Performance

The ASD-PL3R-IV uses an optical sensing chamber designed to detect smoke produced by a broad range of developing fire conditions.

The detector continuously evaluates conditions within the sensing chamber and communicates detector information to the compatible fire alarm control panel. This intelligent operation allows the system to identify the exact detector involved during an alarm or abnormal condition.

The detector is suitable for open-area commercial smoke detection and can also be used in approved duct smoke detection configurations.

Velociti Communication

The ASD-PL3R-IV uses Honeywell Velociti Series intelligent communication technology for rapid data exchange between compatible addressable field devices and fire alarm control equipment.

Each detector maintains individual point identification on the signaling line circuit, allowing precise alarm, trouble, test, and maintenance reporting.

This addressable architecture simplifies system commissioning, troubleshooting, inspection, and ongoing maintenance compared with conventional zone-based detection.

Addressing

Built-in rotary decimal switches provide straightforward detector addressing during installation.

Each ASD-PL3R-IV can be assigned an individual device address and associated with a specific programmed location within the fire alarm control panel.

Rotary addressing also simplifies replacement because technicians can configure the required address directly on the replacement detector before returning the system to service.

Status Indication

The ASD-PL3R-IV incorporates dual LEDs designed to provide broad visual indication around the detector.

Depending on system operation and programming, the LEDs can provide normal communication, alarm, and maintenance-related indications. This helps technicians identify detector status during commissioning, inspection, functional testing, troubleshooting, and emergency events.

The detector also supports compatible remote LED annunciation where the installed device itself is not readily visible.

Remote Testing Capability

The ASD-PL3R-IV supports remote functional testing, particularly when used in an approved duct detector application.

When installed in compatible duct smoke detector equipment, technicians can use approved remote test accessories to initiate detector testing from a more accessible location.

This capability is useful for duct detectors installed above ceilings, in mechanical spaces, or in other locations where direct access to the detector may be difficult.

Duct Detection Capability

The ASD-PL3R-IV is suitable for approved HVAC duct smoke detection when installed in a compatible duct detector housing.

In this configuration, the detector monitors sampled air moving through HVAC ductwork. Smoke detection can be used by the fire alarm system to initiate programmed functions such as air-handler shutdown, fan control, smoke-control sequences, or alarm reporting.

This allows the ASD-PL3R-IV platform to support both open-area and approved duct smoke detection applications.

Testing & Maintenance

The plug-in detector design allows the sensing head to be removed from its installed base for inspection, cleaning, testing, servicing, or replacement without disturbing permanent field wiring.

Routine maintenance should include inspection of the smoke entry openings and sensing chamber for dust, debris, paint, or contamination that could interfere with proper smoke detection.

Functional testing should verify smoke response, addressable communication, LED indication, remote testing functions where used, and correct reporting at the fire alarm control panel.

Detector Base Options

The ASD-PL3R-IV uses a separate plug-in detector base that remains permanently connected to field wiring.

Depending on the approved system configuration, compatible bases may provide standard mounting or additional functionality such as relay operation, signaling-line isolation, or local audible signaling.

The correct base should be verified for compatibility with the specific fire alarm control system before installation or replacement.
