Edwards SIGA-MAB Intelligent Addressable Input/Output Module

The Edwards SIGA-MAB Intelligent Addressable Input/Output Module is a Signature Series Universal Class A/B Module designed for flexible fire alarm interface applications. Its function is determined by a downloadable personality code, allowing the module to operate with initiating device circuits, compatible two-wire smoke detector circuits, or notification appliance circuits.

The SIGA-MAB is the UIO motherboard-mounted version of the Edwards universal Class A/B module. It plugs into compatible two- or six-position UIO motherboards, while field wiring terminates on the motherboard terminal blocks.

Initiating Device Circuit

The SIGA-MAB can monitor conventional dry-contact initiating devices such as:

• Manual pull stations
• Heat detectors
• Waterflow switches
• Supervisory switches
• Other compatible normally open contacts

For Class B dry-contact applications, Edwards documentation identifies personality codes 1, 2, 3, and 4. Class A equivalents use personality codes 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Personality Code 2 provides delayed latching operation, requiring the input contact to remain closed for approximately 16 seconds before an alarm is generated, making it suitable for appropriate waterflow applications.

---

Two-Wire Smoke Detector Circuits

The SIGA-MAB can interface compatible conventional two-wire smoke detectors with an Edwards Signature Series system.

Published configurations include:

Class B Smoke Input: Personality Codes 13 and 14

Class A Smoke Input: Personality Codes 20 and 21.

Only smoke detectors specifically approved for use with the applicable Edwards control system should be connected.

---

Notification Appliance Circuit

The SIGA-MAB can also function as a notification output module.

Published configurations include:

Personality Code 15: Class A NAC

Personality Code 16: Class B NAC.

This allows compatible externally powered horns, strobes, or audio circuits to be controlled through the addressable Signature system.

---

Output Ratings

Published SIGA-MAB output ratings are:

24 VDC: 2 A

25 V Audio: 50 W

70 V Audio: 35 W.

Edwards identifies the applicable circuits as power-limited.

---

Personality Codes

The SIGA-MAB supports:

14 selectable personality codes.

These personality codes determine whether the module operates as:

• Class A dry-contact input
• Class B dry-contact input
• Delayed alarm input
• Supervisory input
• Class A two-wire smoke input
• Class B two-wire smoke input
• Class A notification output
• Class B notification output

The personality code is downloaded from the Signature loop controller during system configuration.

---

Electronic Addressing

The SIGA-MAB uses electronic addressing rather than DIP switches or rotary dials.

Programmable addresses can be downloaded from the loop controller, a PC, or compatible Signature programming/service equipment.

Published Edwards specifications identify the SIGA-MAB as requiring:

Two module addresses.

---

Automatic Device Mapping

The SIGA-MAB supports Edwards automatic device mapping.

Signature modules transmit information to the loop controller describing their physical location relative to other Signature devices on the loop. This assists with system configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

---

LED Indicators

The SIGA-MAB includes onboard diagnostic LEDs:

Green LED: Flashes when the module is polled

Red LED: Flashes when the module is in alarm or active.

These indicators provide technicians with immediate visual confirmation of communication and module status.

---

UIO Motherboard Mounting

The SIGA-MAB is specifically designed as a plug-in UIO module.

Compatible Edwards motherboards include:

UIO2R

UIO6R

UIO6.

The module plugs into an available motherboard position and is secured to the board. All field wiring connections are made to motherboard terminals.

---

Wiring Specifications

Supported Wire Size: #12–18 AWG

Metric Range: approximately 2.5–0.75 mm².

Field wiring is terminated at the associated UIO motherboard rather than directly on the plug-in SIGA-MAB module.

---

Construction

Construction: High-impact engineering polymer.

The compact module is designed for protected installation inside a compatible Edwards UIO enclosure.

---

Environmental Specifications

Operating Temperature: 32°F to 120°F / 0°C to 49°C

Storage Temperature: −4°F to 140°F / −20°C to 60°C

Relative Humidity: 0–93% RH.
