The Edwards Est 6249B is a plug-in Ionization Smoke Detector for use in Edwards Fire Alarm Control Panels. Besides, the Edwards Est 6249B ion smoke detector operates on the ionization principle. It senses the change in conductivity of ionized air caused by the presence of visible or invisible products of combustion and responds quickly to both fast-burning fires and slow smoldering fires. When activated the detector’s lamp illuminates when the detector is clear of combustion products, pressing the reset button on the control panel will reset the detector and system control panel.
On smooth ceilings, max 15ft high with minimum air movement, recommend spacing for detectors is maximum of 30ft, on center, protects 900 Sq. ft. maximum. See NFPA 72E standard on automatic fire detectors for detailed, spacing recommendations. In a room, building, etc, where force ventilation is present detectors should not be locate near supply diffusers; where smoke can be dilute before it reaches the detector. Also, detectors should be located to favor the airflow toward return openings. This may require additional detectors since placing detectors only near return air openings may leave the balance of the area with inadequate protection when the air handling system is shut down.
